About
Emily Andersen, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
You’re still overthinking food, still hyper-aware of your body, and still trying to manage how you feel—controlling what you eat, how you look, and how you exist in the world. You know you can’t keep living like this, but nothing you do gives you the relief you’re looking for.
Let’s cut through all the noise—from social media, diet culture, and the external pressures you’ve picked up from family, relationships, and the world around you.
I show up fully engaged in this work, and I expect you to do the same. This is important because I can give you all the suggestions in the world, but if you’re not doing the work outside of session, the things you’re struggling with aren’t going to change. Therapy with me is a collaborative process, and we work together to actually feel, heal, and work through whatever challenges and pain you’re facing.
- Reconnecting with your body and its inner wisdom
- Rebuilding trust in your internal signals and cues
- Dismantling harmful beliefs about body size and worth
- Building confidence in using your voice and communicating your needs more directly
- Understanding weight bias and the larger systems that have shaped how you see your body and health
- Feeling more empowered, informed, and grounded in your right to respectful, compassionate care
Sometimes, trauma and adverse experiences are at the root of what is keeping you stuck—even if it doesn’t look the way you’d expect or you’ve told yourself it “wasn’t that bad.” That’s why we go beyond just talking. I use somatic work, including Brainspotting, to help you process what your body and your nervous system are still holding onto (because insight alone doesn’t always cut it or lead to lasting change). We’ll also look at the parts of you that helped you survive and protect yourself—desire for control, people-pleasing, patterns around food, and your body journey. Once we understand the role your protectors play in how you show up and cope with life’s difficulties, we can start to shift the behaviors and narratives that no longer serve you.
I help clients heal from the deeper roots of their body image and eating challenges so they can stop fighting themselves and start living their lives—fully, freely, and without apology.
As someone who has recovered from an eating disorder in a larger body, I don’t just talk about this work—I live it and honor it. I know what it’s like to navigate weight stigma, fat bias, and a world that constantly tells you to change. Yes, I help my clients learn how to heal, but I also teach them to advocate for themselves in spaces that haven’t always supported, listened, or understood them—especially healthcare settings. You deserve care that actually sees you as a whole person and not just your body or an arbitrary number on a scale.
I’ve built my practice through years of hands-on experience working with people in some of the most intensive levels of care—from eating disorder treatment to substance use and primary mental health. I’ve supported clients through some of their hardest and most challenging moments in their recovery, and I’m not afraid to go there with you.
Before private practice, I worked in partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), residential, and detox settings, and eventually stepped into leadership positions as a program director. That means I understand both the clinical side of this work and what it actually takes to create meaningful, lasting change in your real life—not just in treatment programs and settings.
